Salicylic acid peels should not be used by the following people:
- people that have a history of salicylate allergies, which may include aspirin in certain cases
- individuals who take isotretinoin (Accutane)
- pregnant women with active dermatitis or itching on the skin
If a person has skin cancer, he or she should avoid using a salicylic acid peel on the affected region.
Salicylic acid peels have less side effects than most peels because they are milder. They may contain the following:
- greater sun exposure
- redness
- slight tingling feeling
- peeling
