Does Fat Freezing work?

Cryolipolysis was developed as a result of research into what happens to fats after frostbite.

The temperature at which fat freezes is higher than the temperature at which skin freezes. The treatment can safely freeze and kill fats, leaving no damage to surrounding skin and tissue.

Fat freezing is not a surgical procedure and does not require the use of needles. Suction cups will be placed on the target fat area to freeze fats at -5° for 45 mins to 1 hour.

The treatment can effectively eliminate up to 25% of fat, leaving skin, blood vessels, and nerves unharmed.

The full results may take a few months to appear; however, you may notice some changes within a few weeks. Over time, your immune system gradually clears out the dead fat cells.

To find out whether fat freezing works, you can see the fat freezing before and after photos.

who is fat freezing for?

Fat freezing is a fat loss treatment and should not be confused with weight loss. It is effective to use fat freezing to eliminate stubborn fat bulges that are resistant to diet and exercise.

You should not disregard a healthy diet and regular exercise when undergoing fat freeze treatment. It is still important to maintain a balanced, healthy lifestyle.

Who should avoid fat freezing?

Like all slimming treatments, fat freezing side effects may occur on rare occasions. If you have any of the following conditions, you should avoid cryolipolysis:

  • Loose Skin
  • Skin tone is uneven.
  • Cryoglobulinemia is a condition in which a person’s blood is frozen (a condition where abnormal proteins in your blood thicken in cold temperatures)
  • Urticaria at a cool temperature (a skin condition that causes hives on your skin when it gets cold)
  • Raynaud’s syndrome is a condition in which the blood vessels in the hands and feet

Fat freeze is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, sensitive to colds, or suffer from obesity.

Fat Freezing Side Effects & Risks

fat freezing before and after

Overall, fat freezing is a very safe treatment with a good safety record. However, being a machine slimming treatment, some side effects may occur after treatment.

Apart from a tugging feeling where the skin is between the device’s two cooling panels, most people don’t feel anything during the process.

Because there is no cutting, tissue manipulation, or anaesthetic involved in the process, most patients do not require any recuperation time and can resume their typical activities right away.

Common fat freezing treatment side effects

Aching or pain in target area

Due to the freezing temperature of the treatment, it is common for the fat freezing side effect to cause a little pain, stinging, or aching at the treatment area.

Most of the patients we have treated found the pain to be very tolerable. For those who experienced minor pain, it may linger for 3–11 days before completely disappearing.

Temporary Skin Irritation

After fat freezing treatment, it is common to experience skin irritation from the cold temperatures.

Fat freezing side effects such as swelling, bruising, and skin sensitivity are all symptoms of transient skin discoloration. Rest assured, these side effects will usually go away on their own within a few weeks.

Rare fat freezing side effects

Adipose hyperplasia

Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia is a rare yet serious side effect of CoolSculpting. When fat cells in the treatment area grow larger rather than smaller, this is known as hypertrophy.

Cryolipolysis induced paradoxical adipose hyperplasia is more common in male patients, and the specific origin of the illness is unknown.

While paradoxical adipose hyperplasia is a cosmetic rather than a medically harmful side effect, it necessitates corrective liposuction or other surgery to remove the swollen fat cells.
